    I was friends with Paul, and a guitar student, back in the Racer-X days. Paul, and the entire Racer-X band, were all great musicians and down-to-earth, cool guys. I was there for the recording of the Mr. Big "Addicted to that Rush" video, such a cool experience. Back in those days, I was the lead guitarist for a band called "Redline". We opened for Racer-X at the majority of their shows. I have so many great memories and stories from those years (I could probably write a book).

    You know what really sucks? The years referred to as “Van Hagar” could have been better with DLR. 1984, in my opinion is the best VH album next to VH1. Eddie made his keyboards debut on that album. Jump and I’ll Wait are great songs and give us a preview of what could have been had the boys not imploded and DLR leaving. Roth in my opinion is a better lyric writer than Hagar and I for one would have loved to see DLR stay on and power his way through the keyboard era of VH. Could have been really good you know what I mean?

    • @guitarmeetsscience
      @guitarmeetsscience День назад

      @@richardmitchell8213 yep I know what you mean exactly. I couldn't even wrap my mind around how they would have sounded had they kept Dave in, but I have a feeling their next album would have been even bigger the 1984 because they were just hitting their stride musically. It's a shame though, the personalities unfortunately just were not gelling. But you're right, it would have been freaking amazing!

I even learn som new things too. Been a fan of slayer since the winter 84/85. Those were the times, the timespan between late winter of 84 when i discovered Jump in The Fire maxi single all the way untill 90/91. That really was a smorgasbord of immortal band and albums. Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, Voivod, Exciter, Death Angel, Anthrax, S.O.D., Destruction, Kreator, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Nuclear Assault, Helloween, Sodom, Sepultura, Venom; Mercyful Fate, Crumbsuckers, Razor and then some! It was great to hear and see Kerry King & co at this Sweden Rock Festival! Again - good video!

      Man - I send you a high five! Thanks for the huge compliment, and I'm glad to see a real metal fan enjoying this content. Your comment brings back memories - especially early Metallica. I remember they were like taboo back in the day.... The hard stuff. Even though Slayer went through their ups and downs and tried all sorts of different things, they never really lightened up. All the bands that you named read like a who's who of some of the baddest heaviest ones out there in the day. Great stuff, time to crank up some more. Thanks again man - that really made my day!! 🤘🤘

    I think the band always did Lombardo wrong. I never paid attention to what any drummer was up to before the title track to Seasons in the Abyss. I'm no drummer so I have no idea how difficult it is to play but it amazed twelve year old me. It's difficult for a drummer to be central to a band's sound but I believe Dave is someone that had a big impact on Slayer, not to take anything away from others who manned the kit, but Dave is just that good and should have gotten an equal slice of the pie.

    • @guitarmeetsscience
      @guitarmeetsscience 2 дня назад

      You bring up an interesting point - considering the intensity of slayer's music, Dave was the backbeat. That's a whole hell of a lot of work from behind the kit. From going over the story, it seems to me that life just kind of got complicated for him and for Tom as the years went on.

  • @jamesstaggs4160

    I got South of Heaven after having Seasons in the Abyss and Show No Mercy for around a year and I thought it was phenomenal. War Ensemble is awesome but I never really liked their all out speed offerings. I preferred tracks like Dead Skin Mask, the title track from Seasons and Temptation, so South of Heaven had the band right where I think they excel the most, haunting, slow to mud tempo songs that ooze atmosphere.

    I saw Allan play in Bath, England, in the early 90's but I wasn't ready and didn't fully appreciate it. I was a rocker then, and had heard Metal Fatigue, so I expected that but got all this crazy instrumental stuff with huge chords instead. I remember thinking that he was something else on guitar, although I had literally no idea what he was doing, but it took me many years, and a handful of Allan CD's, to earn a musical appreciation of his work. Nowadays the "The man who changed guitar forever" Spotify playlist is regularly on in my car. My little boy even knows when Allan is on!

      @guitarmeetsscience I can't ever get people to agree with me that dime was the greatest to ever do it which is crazy to me. Being a self taught guitarist myself,I can see things that other people don't and that man was a guitar god. I can't imagine what could be if dime was never assassinated and Pantera got back together.

    • @guitarmeetsscience
      @guitarmeetsscience 2 дня назад

      @coreymcmanus4749 well, there's a lot of complexity with that. So many different criteria, and moving parts. A guitar player that resonates really deeply with one person may not resonate at all with another. However I could also say that there are a lot of people out there that feel the same exact way that you do about dime. And whether people are fans of him or not, they can all easily agree that what happened to him was tragic and never should have occurred. Of all consensus I have seen on here, everybody I've come across know deep down the he is a true legend of the instrument.
